Culture for Coexistence statement on new Israeli bill banning those who support a boycott of Israel from entering Israel
“Culture for Coexistence very much regrets the new law that has been passed in Israel banning proponents of boycotts from entering the country.
Our organisation exists to fight against cultural boycotts of Israel and to argue instead for an approach based on promoting peace and coexistence through cultural interaction between Israelis and Palestinians.
It is more difficult for us to do this if we cannot take boycott supporters to Israel to show them the reality of Israeli society and seek to change their views away from boycotts and towards building bridges.
Boycotts of Israel are unfair, discriminatory and divisive but this law is an own goal as it allows boycott campaigners to present Israel, a country that enjoys vigorous internal democratic debate, as hostile to the fundamental right to free speech.”
